I recently finished a PhD in Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, specializing in theoretical and computational phonology. I will be attending the Insight Data Engineering Fellows program this fall, and will be seeking jobs in the Seattle area relating to language technologies, data engineering, and/or data science.
My academic research centered primarily on using statistical methods to model the interactions between grammar, learning, and typology. My dissertation work examines the gradient typological predictions that arise from combining probabilistic weighted-constraint grammars and agent-based modeling, which uses computer-simulated entities to model learning as interaction and information exchange between agents.
My other academic projects have included joint work with Andrew Lamont, Brandon Prickett, and Gaja Jarosz on the lexically scaled MaxEnt learner for data exhibiting both variation and exceptionality, and joint work with Ivy Hauser on analyzing opacity with contextual faithfulness constraints in HS.
